Shakarrao alias Nanasaheb Deo was the founder of this well known institution – Satkaryottejak Sabha .He was a great patriot at the heart .It was Nanasaheb Deo who gave momentum to all activities of national Congress in Khandesh .So he was rightly called as ‘ Tilak of Khandesh ’.He was greatly influenced by Lokmanya Tilak .

He adorned councillorship of Dhule Municipality for more than five years. He was elected member of Legislative Council of Bombay province for two terms. He was an active member of Marathi Sahitya Parishad too.

But, above all he was an ardent devotee of Shri Samartha Ramdas and his school of thoughts. Writings of Samartha Ramdas through Shrimat Dasbodh had tremendous effects on his mind. He was of the firm opinion that Shri Samartha Vichar ( thoughts ) can only make our country strong , powerful and immortal . He integrated himself with Samartha Ramdas and his performance. He said ‘ Remember Ramdas , country will survive Forget Ramdas country will be doomed to depth ’. He had tremendous thirst for literature of Samartha Ramdas and his disciples. He knocked door of each and every Math of Ramdas in search of literature .

He had to wander throughout the country to quench his thirst for valuable and rare literature of Samartha Ramdas and contemporary saints . His work was laborious and tiresome .But he did it with great devotion and tireless energy. He collected large amount of manuscripts , old letters and important historical documents which are maintained and preserved in Samartha Vagdevata Mandir – an institution founded by Nanasaheb Deo , specially for this purpose. Nanasaheb Deo devoted his life for this purpose .

Because of his high intellect , his urge to serve his country he was highly loved and respected by the young and the old active workers alike .Nanasaheb was highly respected by the then political stalwarts and historians as well . Shri Nanasaheb and his young colleague Nanasaheb Chandorkar , Nanasaheb Gogate , Shankarrao Mande , Damodar Pant Dugal , kaka Pimpalkhare , Shri Bhat and many other wanted to inculcate the sprite of social and national service into the society. They wanted candle of knowledge ever burning Nanasaheb realized that collective and continuous efforts are necessary to achieve these goals. Hence with the help of his friends he founded an institution known as Satkaryottejak Sabha on 19-05-1893 , in Dhule. Any reference to Satkaryottejak Sabha is incomplete without referring to Nanasaheb Deo . It was Nanasaheb who discovered Shivathar Ghali first, where Shri Rasmdas composed Shrimat Dasbodh .
